Job Description

Senior Counsel – Complex Litigation (Part-Time, Flexible Schedule)

Lead. Advocate. Win – On Your Terms.

California Bar License Required

At Tyson & Mendes, we understand that experienced attorneys bring invaluable expertise and strategic insight to high-stakes litigation—and we also know that a traditional full-time schedule may not be the right fit for everyone. That’s why we’re offering a flexible, reduced-hour opportunity for seasoned trial attorneys looking to continue practicing at a high level while maintaining a better work-life balance.

As a leader in insurance defense and complex trial litigation, we provide a platform for attorneys to deliver winning legal strategies, mentor rising litigators, and drive impactful case results—all while working a reduced schedule of approximately 100 billable hours per month.

Why Tyson & Mendes?

Flexible Schedule – Work at a pace that fits your lifestyle while continuing to practice at the highest level.
Engaging, High-Stakes Work – Handle complex, high-exposure cases for Fortune 500 companies and top insurers without a full-time commitment.
Supportive & Inclusive Culture – Join a team that values experience, collaboration, and mentorship, ensuring your contributions are recognized.
Nationwide Growth & Stability – Be part of a firm that is expanding and evolving, offering long-term opportunities for legal professionals at all stages of their careers.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion – Work in an environment that celebrates diverse perspectives and prioritizes equitable opportunities for all attorneys.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Counsel with a strong background in insurance defense and complex litigation who desires a part-time schedule while remaining actively engaged in trial work and case strategy. This role is ideal for an attorney who still thrives on high-stakes litigation but seeks greater flexibility in managing their workload.

What You’ll Do:

  • Handle complex, high-exposure cases from inception through resolution on a part-time basis.
  • Lead trial strategy and provide high-level case oversight.
  • Mentor and collaborate with litigation teams, helping to shape defense strategies and develop junior attorneys.
  • Provide strategic legal counsel to clients, ensuring top-tier representation while maintaining a balanced schedule.
  • Work efficiently and effectively, maximizing impact while keeping a reduced-hour commitment.

Work Where You Thrive

We offer flexible work options to fit your schedule:

Remote – Work from home with availability for in-person appearances as needed.
Hybrid – Split time between remote work and office collaboration.
In-Office – Join a dynamic, team-driven environment for in-person engagement.

Who You Are

8+ years of litigation and trial experience in insurance defense or complex civil litigation.
Proven ability to lead and strategize on high-stakes cases.
Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with a focus on efficiency.
Strong mentorship mindset, ready to provide guidance and strategic oversight.
Looking for a reduced-hour role that allows for work-life balance while staying engaged in meaningful legal work.

Continue practicing law at a high level—on your terms. Apply today!
