Job Description

The Firm Attorney – Legal Confirmations fulfills an essential role in the firm's global legal confirmation risk-management function. With oversight from the Compliance Attorney and others, the Firm Attorney – Legal Confirmations handles all aspects of the firm’s response to legal confirmation requests relating to the firm’s clients in a manner compliant with ABA standards, Lawyers’ Rules of Professional Conduct, and internal policies and procedures. In connection with the preparation of legal confirmations (aka “audit response letters”), the Firm Attorney – Legal Confirmations will regularly collaborate with attorneys, at all levels, throughout the firm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze incoming audit response requests to confirm the validity of requests and identify the corresponding firm client(s) and matter(s).

  • Take affirmative steps to remedy deficiencies in audit response requests, as may be appropriate.

  • Communicate with multiple departments of the firm and across firm offices to obtain the information required to respond to each audit letter request.

  • Accurately generate attorney timekeeper and other computerized reports and conduct internal database searches. 

  • Circulate polls to the relevant attorneys within the firm and adeptly assess and escalate issues related to potential required disclosures as needed.

  • Communicate with attorneys within the firm, and with the auditor as needed, to resolve any questions that may arise during the process.

  • Draft, edit and finalize audit response letters according to current standards, including explaining deviations from the standard forms and conveying any recommendations to the legal team for consideration.

  • Following approval from the responsible partner, transmit responses to the client’s auditor and the client within specified deadlines.

  • Ensure each response is completely and accurately documented.

  • Assist with testing and evaluation of new procedures and technology as requested.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Required:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Required Skills And Experience:

  • Active bar membership and member in good standing.

  • At least 3-4 years of law firm experience.

  • Proficiency in Outlook, Word, PDF document handling, and Excel and ability to learn new technologies.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills with the ability to provide accurate work product in a high-volume environment.

  • A robust sense of accountability, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently.

  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate thoughts and events, provide explanations, and propose actions and alternatives to firm partners.

  • Strong customer service skills and eagerness to provide the highest level of service to clients.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research using standard legal research tools.

  • Excellent judgement and experience identifying and appropriately handling privileged, confidential and/or otherwise protected client information.

  • Available to work extended hours including evenings and weekends, particularly during the months of February, March, April and May.

  • The ideal candidate will be proactive and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while fostering strong collaborative relationships across the firm.

Salary Information

NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $175,000 to $200,000 at the time of posting.

The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
