Position Overview:
JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Immigration Legal Services team as the Affirmative Services (AS) Program Coordinator. In this role, you will have the opportunity to use your customer service skills and multi-cultural experience to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across San Diego. The AS Immigration Program Coordinator plays an integral role on the team and supports the entire agency by fielding inquiries to the Affirmative Services program and assisting AS caseworkers with client/prospective client outreach. This position reports directly to the Program Manager of Intakes and Referrals and works directly with the Programmatic and Affirmative Services programs of the Immigration Legal Services team.
Responsibilities:
Intake Support
- Manage online scheduling system for Affirmative Services Program
- Answer live immigration line calls, respond to immigration line voicemails, and schedule appointments for Affirmative Services program
- Assess eligibility of prospective clients for legal services from Affirmative Services program
- Communicate with scheduled prospective clients on how to prepare for their appointment with AS caseworkers
- Coordinate internal legal service workshop for the Affirmative Services program in conjunction with Intake and Referral Program Manager
Caseworker Support
- Assist AS staff to prepare and mail immigration filings
- Prepare and file FOIAs for AS Caseworkers
- Provide interpretation assistance to AS caseworker and assist with translation of client documents
- Limited client casework assistance to AS caseworkers in conjunction with Intake and Referral Program Manager
Administrative
- Assist with office-related support and administrative tasks
- Stay up to date on rapidly changing immigration laws and policies
- Comply with data and program reporting requirements
- As the primary staff member charged with the day-to-day administrative tasks to support the AS program staff, be ready and willing to step in and assist the team as necessary. With the constant changes in immigration law and policy, sometimes there is a need to change the way tasks or cases are handled. The ideal candidate is someone that can easily adapt to constant changes.
Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:
- Must have a valid driver’s license, access to an automobile, insurance, and willingness to drive off-site locations
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and organize in a fast-paced environment
- Experience working with vulnerable populations and in multi-cultural settings
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish
- Strong customer service skills and cross-cultural understanding
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work under pressure
- Ability to work both independently and with a team
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
- Passion for social justice for immigrants
Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have:
- Proficient in Microsoft software including Excel, Word, Outlook
- Experience using social media platforms, Canva, and Zoom
- Fluency in one of the following: Arabic, Haitian Creole, Persian (Dari or Farsi), Russian, or an East/Southeast Asian language
- Experience promoting events or services online
Physical Requirements:
- Position requires sitting at a desk and using screens most of the day
- The employee must have the ability to lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds as needed
