Job Description

DEPARTMENT: Administration
REPORTS TO: General Counsel
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

SCOPE: The Programs Assistant to the Office of the General Counsel plays a key role in supporting the organization’s Legal, Development, Advocacy (ACE), and Affordable Housing Development work. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as a commitment to the mission and values of the Urban League of Portland.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the General Counsel in managing day-to-day responsibilities, including handling correspondence, scheduling meetings, and managing projects.
  • Assist the General Counsel with organizing information, coordinating appoint ments, and supporting organizational initiatives.
  • Prepare written communications, reports, research findings, and data analysis for the General Counsel.
  • Maintain and update calendars for the General Counsel, including scheduling and logistics for Board, Committee, and Staff meetings.
  • Compile and distribute meeting materials and information packets.
  • Represent the organization with a professional and business-appropriate appearance and demeanor.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and uphold organizational policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the General Counsel and the organization.
  • Assist in development work through researching and facilitating connections that could help the ULPDX raise revenue.
  • Assist in events planning and other support as needed for fundraising events.
  • Assist in advocacy (ACE) as needed, including making connections with policy makers, doing policy analysis and briefing of issues, creating or editing testimony.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and community empowerment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • The ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects.
  • Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential matters.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred OR 5–10 years of relevant experience.

Additional Information

  • This position may require occasional evening or weekend hours.
  • Professional appearance and conduct are expected at all times.
