Job Description

The Department of Labor and Industry, Unemployment Compensation Board of Review is seeking highly motivated and organized individuals to fill the role of Legal Assistant 2. As a key member of our Philadelphia Referee Office legal team, you will play an essential role in supporting referee staff with the processing of unemployment compensation appeals. This position will involve handling complex legal issues and requires dedication, a positive attitude, and excellent organizational skills. In this position, you will be entrusted with a variety of important tasks and responsibilities. Using your strong communication skills, you will coordinate the referee's hearing schedule, prepare and distribute hearing notices, and transcribe decisions from digital recordings. Additionally, you will be responsible for drafting, proofreading, and finalizing decisions, verifying and entering data, and maintaining both electronic and paper files. You will also manage client inquiries, ensuring positive and professional relationships are upheld. The ideal candidate will be proficient in navigating computer applications and systems, as well as interpreting a variety of documentation and records. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to effectively support the referee hearing process and team operations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
    • Work hours are negotiable.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework)part-time, upon successful completion of your training. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Philadelphia.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Legal Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of responsible clerical, investigative or enforcement work including one year of legal clerical support experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
