Job Description

Paralegal
 
Hours are 8 am – 5 pm Monday through Friday 

 

The Paralegal is responsible for a wide range of legal tasks to support the global Brentwood Group of companies, including matters of corporate governance, privacy, real estate, acquisition, data and information privacy, contract, intellectual property, commercial transactions, litigation, and client legal education. Employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and complete records and files on internal databases and collect and collate information required from various sources.
  • Conduct internal and external research and resolve legal questions under the direction of the team's lead counsel and other commercial counsel.
  • Review, revise, prepare corporate governance documents, with oversight as needed. 
  • Prepare, draft, and maintain legal templates, legal correspondence, policies, presentations, and other materials; educate business partners on the use of these templates.
  • Aid in the maintenance and organization of an up-to-date contract database.  Assist with continued development of Brentwood’s contract lifecycle management 
  • Draft agreement-related letters, new contracts based on forms and other related amendments or ancillary documents.
  • Support all companies’ compliance with rules and regulations related to privacy, data security, trade and tariff regulations, and similar.  
  • Provide effective, comprehensive, and timely communication to clients on Legal topics, using critical thinking and independent thought and judgment to understand client requests and inquiries and to determine the appropriate action that meets the client’s needs, and that is based on analysis and evidence that aligns with requirements typically noted in applicable legal agreements, law, regulation, or policy.
  • Manage and coordinate projects and drive solutions to meet project objectives; provide project management support for crucial legal initiatives; interact with colleagues and management to facilitate project completion as needed.
  • Support the development of training materials in the Legal Department and company policies and matters, present training sessions within the company.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in the legal function, propose solutions, and raise the issue with appropriate stakeholders when and as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with others in the Law Department and other functions within Brentwood.  
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and files on internal databases and collect and collate information required from various sources.

  • Provide support to the broader legal team as needed.

Essential Skills:   

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree required. Those actively working towards a degree will be considered. 
  • At least two years or more of work experience in a legal setting, e.g., private practice or corporate. 
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and well-developed common sense. 
  • Flexibility, adaptability and love of learning new things.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite, including higher level Excel skills.
  • Familiarity with document management systems.
  • Legal research skills using, for example, legal databases like PACER, Lexis, Bloomberg, Westlaw. 
  • Experience with contract management systems or similar tools.   
  • Highly skilled in spoken and written English and ability to communicate effectively. Proficiency in reading or writing other languages a plus, particularly, Spanish, German, Czech or Thai.
  • Ability to tailor communications to various audiences, including Brentwood colleagues of different cultures. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail. 
  • Skilled at independently prioritizing, tracking, and managing a lengthy task list.  
  • Knowledge of patent and trademark matters, or aptitude and willingness to learn.
