1. Interprets legal regulations and University policies and procedures. 2. Assists in the handling of administrative and legal proceedings before federal and state agencies and courts. 3. Negotiates, reviews, drafts and interprets contracts. 4. Negotiates and drafts the settlement of claims and/or litigation. 5. Researches and drafts memoranda, opinions and correspondence on legal issues. 6. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
J.D. and a minimum of 3 years’ demonstrated experience in a related area.

Position Focus:
Seeking attorney (min. 4 years of experience out of law school). Yale University is committed to improving the world today and for future generations through outstanding research and scholarship, education, preservation, and practice. We are looking for an attorney to join a dedicated team of in-house counsel in support of Yale’s Endowment and those responsible for its stewardship. As a member of the Yale Investments Office and Office of General Counsel, you will provide support in the areas of compliance, regulatory and policy matters. This includes but is not limited to staying abreast of legal and regulatory developments affecting the Endowment. Conducting research and conferring with qualified experts to become in-house subject matter expert. Delivering clear, practical, and timely advice to senior business staff. In partnership with the operations team, developing/updating policies and procedures to satisfy compliance and reporting requirements, conducting regular risk assessments, and constructing and following through on workplans. Advising the operations team on various regulatory filings (e.g., SEC, BEA, and TIC), compliance with FCPA and sanctions, operational due diligence on third party managers, privacy, and other U.S. and non-U.S. legal requirements. Tracking and collaborating on legislative and regulatory proposals affecting the Endowment. Providing support and institutional guidance to governing bodies responsible for the implementation of Yale’s ethical investment policies. Conducting or coordinating legal trainings for the Investments Office. You will work closely with the Deputy General Counsel for Investments (to whom you would report) and the Chief Operating Officer and his team, while being a key member of the in-house team as compliance attorney.

Partially remote / some flexibility available.

Note: Responsibilities #2, #3 and #4 in “Principal Responsibilities” below are not relevant for this position.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Although a broad skill set is desired, candidates with demonstrated experience in investment management legal and regulatory compliance is preferred.
