Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW

GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs professional legal work on a part-time basis to support the County Attorney’s Office by providing legal research and analysis. This position provides part-time coverage through September 20, 2026 with a possible extension to March 1, 2027, to address workload demands and special projects while maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and County policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Conduct legal research and analysis on statues, case law, ordinances, and regulatory requirements relevant to assigned matters.
• Prepare, review, and revise legal documents including pleadings, motions, briefs, contracts, agreements, and memoranda.
• Draft legal opinions and recommendations to support decision-making and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of the rules of evidence, civil procedure, and other relevant Nebraska statues.
• Review, analyze, and interpret contracts, agreements, and procurement documents to ensure legal sufficiency and compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Graduate of an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree.
• Must be licensed to practice law in the state of Nebraska.
• Must be a member in good standing with the Nebraska Bar Association.
• Have and maintain a valid Driver’s License, as well as meet eligibility requirements of “acceptable driving standards” as defined by the County.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse individuals.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
• Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite and other software related to data
management, communication, and other common business processes.
• Ability to follow established policies and procedures for confidentiality while adapting to
evolving privacy standards and technologies.
• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships within a team.
• Knowledge of legal research methods, case law analysis, and statutory interpretation.
• Skill in conducting legal research, drafting motions, pleadings, briefs, and other legal
documents.
• Ability to interpret and apply complex laws, regulations, and contract provisions.

The work environment is typically a professional office setting, courtroom, or secure detention
facility, involving regular use of computers, standard office equipment, and frequent interaction
