About the role
Wonder is seeking an Associate Director, Real Estate Counsel to help manage the legal aspects of our construction and facilities operations. This role will focus on drafting and negotiating contracts, managing construction-related legal issues, supporting facilities management, and driving improvements to the efficiency and scalability of our legal processes.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Legal Support: Draft, review, and negotiate construction contracts and related agreements, including those with general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, and consultants. Help identify and bridge gaps between lease requirements and construction/facilities execution to ensure compliance and reduce operational risk.
Construction Issue Management: Provide legal guidance on construction matters such as project delays, change orders, design defects, mechanics’ liens, insurance requirements, performance disputes, and warranty issues.
Facilities Legal Support: Support the legal needs of facilities management teams including service contracts, maintenance agreements, equipment purchases, and emergency response vendors.
Vendor & Supplier Agreements: Draft and negotiate master service agreements, scopes of work, purchase orders, and related documentation with vendors and suppliers engaged in construction and facilities operations.
Legal Process & Workflow Optimization: Help develop and refine legal templates, playbooks, approval workflows, and contract systems to increase efficiency and reduce turnaround times.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the construction, development, and facilities teams to support active projects and day-to-day operations with timely legal advice.
Risk Management & Compliance: Identify and escalate legal risks related to construction and facilities operations; contribute to internal standards and best practices to manage those risks effectively.
The experience you have
JD or LLM Member of New York bar in good standing
4-5 years of legal experience at a law firm or in-house legal
department, ideally with a focus in the construction or real estate
industry
Experience managing complex transactions and juggling conflicting deadlines
Strong drafting and negotiation skills with an ability to align legal
work with operational needs
Experience and interest in building tools, systems, and workflows to
improve efficiency

Salary: $202,750.00
Our hybrid model requires 3 days a week in the office. That said, many team members choose to come in more often to take advantage of in-person collaboration and connection. You're welcome—and encouraged—to be in the office up to 5 days a week if it works for you.
