Job Description

This position is eligible for telework in accordance with CLRC’s Telework Policy and will be required to report to the office as needed/required as well as occasional travel to in-person meetings in Sacramento or other locations in the state. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Under the direction of the Attorney Supervisor, the Attorney IV on the Criminal Law Team at California Law Revision Commission (CLRC) is primarily responsible for background research and analysis of the law and policies relevant to the new Commission's studies; performing the most complex, sensitive, and difficult work and assignments with a high degree of independent judgment, decision making, and broad discretion related to a comprehensive range of staff legal work, and in compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations, and other legal authorities.

Department Information

The Committee on Revision of the Penal Code is a multi-member state body that was formed on January 1, 2020. The Committee studies the Penal Code and recommends statutory reforms to achieve the following objectives:

(1) Simplify and rationalize the substance of criminal law.

(2) Simplify and rationalize criminal procedures.

(3) Establish alternatives to incarceration that will aid in the rehabilitation of offenders.

(4) Improve the system of parole and probation.

The Committee’s legal staff will provide support for that work by conducting legal research and analysis, participating in the Committee’s meetings, and supporting the legislative process when bills are introduced to implement the Committee’s recommendations.

  • The position(s) require(s) a(n) The State Bar of California License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.
