We are a client-focused immigration law firm dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality legal services to immigrants and their families. We are seeking a professional, organized, and bilingual (preferred) Duty Legal Assistant to serve as a primary point of contact for prospective and current clients.
Position SummaryThe Duty Legal Assistant plays a critical role in client relations, case preparation, and customer service. This position is responsible for meeting with new clients who retain the firm, assisting walk-in clients with immigration-related questions, gathering documentation, and preparing immigration applications and requests under attorney supervision. The ideal candidate is personable, detail-oriented, and passionate about helping immigrants navigate the legal process.
Key Responsibilities Client Relations & Customer Service- Meet with all newly retained clients to gather information and begin the case process.
- Assist walk-in clients by answering general immigration-related questions.
- Maintain regular communication with clients regarding case updates and document requests.
- Ensure all client information is accurately entered into the case management system.
- Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Prepare and assemble immigration forms and applications under attorney supervision, including:
- Form I-90 (Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card)
- DACA renewal applications and related documentation
- Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests with USCIS, CBP, EOIR, and other agencies
- Review applications for completeness and accuracy.
- Organize and maintain electronic and physical case files.
- Draft routine correspondence and follow-up requests.
- Track filing deadlines and request additional documentation from clients when needed.
- Scan, upload, and manage case documents.
- Assist attorneys and paralegals with case preparation and special projects.
- High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Previous experience in immigration law, legal services, or a professional office environment preferred.
- Experience preparing I-90 applications, DACA renewals, and FOIA requests preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and case management software.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
