As a dynamic and growing specialty auto insurance company, we’re looking to expand into new markets across the country. As part of our strategic growth, we're launching our Staff Counsel operations in California, and we're seeking an experienced Managing Trial Attorney to be the cornerstone of this initiative.

Overview:
As the Managing Trial Attorney, you’ll lead the development of our Staff Counsel operations in California while managing a high-performing team of attorneys and support staff. Key responsibilities include:
Team Leadership and Development
- Establish and oversee the Staff Counsel office serving Los Angeles County and surrounding regions
- Recruit, supervise, and guide a team of trial attorneys and litigation support staff
- Lead and inspire a team of legal professionals, fostering career growth and team success
- Conduct regular performance assessments, coaching sessions, and tailored training plans
- Cultivate a culture of collaboration, integrity, accountability and outstanding client service
Trial and Litigation Management
- Manage and participate in all phases of litigation involving Aspire General or its policyholders, including trial and appellate advocacy
- Design and implement strategic case approaches, in coordination with Claims partners
- Develop and enforce litigation protocols and best practices for consistent and top-tier representation
- Track litigation assignments, workload distribution, and case outcomes to maximize performance
- Perform legal review of pleadings, motions, and filings for strategic accuracy and compliance
- Act as lead trial counsel on complex liability and property damage matters, as needed
Risk Mitigation and Legal Compliance
- Oversee any necessary legal research for all litigation phases and ensure insights are effectively shared with internal stakeholders
- Negotiate settlements when appropriate, balancing legal exposure with cost-efficiency
- Maintain full compliance with federal, state, and ethical standards in all case-handling practices
- Partner with leadership to enhance policy development and ensure legal and ethical compliance
Stakeholder Communication and Representation
- Nurture strong relationships with clients and Claims partners
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of case activities and litigation milestones
- Deliver routine case status updates and provide strategic insights to clients and Claims partners
- Compile and communicate trends, key verdicts, settlement analytics, and exposure reports
Budget and Resource Management
- Direct office-level budgeting, resource planning, and cost-control measures
- Align team resources and litigation strategies with operational priorities
- Evaluate service provider performance and optimize external resource engagement
Qualifications
We're looking for a legal trailblazer with:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Must be an active member in good standing of the State Bar of California with a clean disciplinary record
- Minimum 10 years of trial/litigation experience, preferably in personal auto insurance defense
- Strong leadership and management experience, with demonstrated ability to build and lead legal teams
- Strong knowledge of California insurance law, civil litigation procedures, and trial advocacy
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload effectively
- Excellent negotiation, litigation, and organizational skills
- Passion for growth, innovation, and creating something new
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous leadership experience in a Staff Counsel operation
- Familiarity with case management and electronic filing software
