The Assistant City Attorney serves as the municipal prosecutor, working closely with the police department, code compliance team, and other city departments. The city prosecutor will be responsible for prosecuting all municipal ordinance violations with an emphasis on enhancing public safety and community-based solutions. The Assistant City Attorney reports to the Deputy City Attorney.

Hiring pay range $103,000 - $108,600 per year
This full-time position is exempt per FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
Work Schedule: This is a full-time position and will have the ability to work a hybrid schedule with some days teleworking and some days working in person at the Littleton Municipal Court, based on court scheduling. Based upon legislatively mandated weekend court advisements, this position will cover Sunday morning jail advisements via remote login, should any be set.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs a variety of litigation functions, including the prosecution of criminal cases, municipal traffic and code violations, plea negotiations, and presenting a variety of cases in Municipal Court.
Provides legal research, advice, and training to the Police Department and other city staff.
Conducts research for trials and appellate briefs.
Interviews victims and witnesses of crimes.
Prepares pleadings, undertakes discovery, and drafts appeals.
Answers letters of inquiry and speaks with citizens.
Handles cases brought before the Licensing Authority, to include presenting cases for show cause hearings and reaching dispositions with licensees.
Serves as a resource for the city's Code Compliance team on issues related to enforcing a wide variety of ordinances, codes, rules, and regulations.
Conducts and/or appears at administrative and legal hearings on behalf of the city.
Performs other related duties at the direction of the Deputy City Attorney or City Attorney.
May serve as an Emergency Worker.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university.
Two (2) years of experience as a practicing attorney, specifically in criminal prosecution or criminal defense; or
An equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with local, state, or federal government.
Currently able to practice law in the State of Colorado.
Demonstrated experience creating training materials and presenting legal topics to a variety of audiences.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Advanced knowledge of municipal court procedures; criminal and civil law; trial/hearing preparation and presentation, legal research, and legal ethics.
Advanced negotiation skills.
Knowledge of legal terms and the principles of government regulation; the ability to read, interpret, apply, and communicate the requirements of selected provisions of the state and federal law, city charter, codes, regulations, and court orders.
Advanced interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to perceive and appropriately respond to customer needs; the ability to effectively communicate and interact with individuals of all backgrounds and de-escalate when appropriate.
Advanced analytical skills including the ability to gather and analyze data, identify problems, compare results, and consider options for solutions.
Strong project management skills and the ability to determine overall plans, outline tasks, delegate responsibilities, set deadlines, get feedback, review, and report results.
Ability to improvise and reach effective decisions quickly.
Ability to work independently and efficiently.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position works in a standard office environment requiring the ability to sit for long periods of time. Physical activities required for this position include: occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
