
The Stoel Rives Summer Program
Our summer program is designed to immerse you in the practice of law and our culture at Stoel Rives. We offer our summer associates well-rounded opportunities including robust training and development, interesting work assignments, pro bono opportunities, mentorship, relationship building, community engagement, and (of course!) fun.
In the Seattle office, offers to summer associates to return as associates are expected to come from the Corporate, Litigation, Project Finance, and Real Estate Construction practice groups.
However, as a summer associate you may have an opportunity to work with attorneys across our core practice groups and industries:
Corporate (which may include capital markets, mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures & startups)
Project Finance & Tax Equity (which may include renewable energy, joint ventures and tax equity partnerships, complex energy deals)
Litigation (which may include business disputes, antitrust, white-collar crime, insurance recovery, securities enforcement)
Real Estate Construction & Design (which may include risk management, finance structuring, construction litigation)
Timber & Forest
Agribusiness
Labor & Employment
Manufacturing
Transportation
Your work assignments will include drafting transactional documents, researching and writing legal research memos, drafting significant portions of briefs, framing discovery requests, and learning the mechanics of closing deals. You will have opportunities to participate in client meetings, hearings, closings, depositions, and trials. Our summer associates also participate in training and professional development programs.
Each of our summer associates is paired with an experienced attorney to provide feedback and guidance on navigating legal practice. Summer associates also participate in social and networking events to meet attorneys from across multiple practice groups.
Requisite Experience and Skills
We are looking for applications from students with a variety of backgrounds, experiences, skills, and interests. Experience can include, for example, professional experience prior to law school, community engagement, or participation in law school organizations, law review, or moot court. Criteria we consider when selecting summer associates include:
Interest in one or more of the firm’s core practice areas;
Intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, responsiveness, initiative, and perseverance;
A commitment to client service and team success;
A record of academic achievement, excellent legal analysis and writing skills, interpersonal and leadership skills, and community involvement; and
An intent to practice law after law school graduation where you are hired as a summer associate.
Compensation
Our summer associates receive the weekly equivalent of an entry-level associate salary in their office location. The weekly salary in the Seattle office is $3,942.
