Job Summary
Job Description
The Caseworker I performs general casework activities for social service programs providing counseling and skills training for individuals requesting social welfare services.
Essential FunctionsReviews clients treatment plans and supports client progress through the social service program to ensure that clients receive appropriate services and interventions.
2 Performs initial assessments of clients to verify eligibility for participation in the programs, develops a treatment plan for the client, and coordinates resources.
3 Participates and conducts training for clients and their families to teach coping and other life skills to enable clients and families to effectively manage problems.
4 Counsels and advises clients and families by developing a client treatment plan to ensure that individuals receive appropriate services and interventions.
5 Maintains contacts with various social service agencies and awareness of the scope of services available; makes client referrals for additional social services.
6 Documents utilization of services to recommend changes in service delivery policy or procedures that will best meet client needs.
7 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and SkillsKnowledge of principles and practices of social work and casework methods.
2 Knowledge of social service resources in the community.
3 Knowledge of social and health issues and the ability to apply knowledge to the solution of diverse problems.
4 May require knowledge of alcohol and drug abuse intervention and the 12 Step Program.
5 Ability to effectively interact with clients from various socioeconomic backgrounds.
6 Ability to make verbal presentations to small or large groups.
7 Ability to work closely with various agencies (law enforcement, schools, employers, health, welfare).
8 Ability to identify client problems and plan for intervention.
9 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
10 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Experience1 year in counseling services, social services, or other community service.
Licenses and CertificationsNone
EducationBachelor's Degree in Social Services, Counseling, or other related field
