The Role:

Blue Owl is looking for a Vice President to join its Legal team. This role will be based in New York and provide legal coverage for private fund formation across our investment platforms.

The ideal candidate is a highly detail-oriented and organized individual who can manage multiple projects and who has strong experience independently managing the fund formation process from launch through operation.  We are looking for candidates who are detail-oriented self-starters and excited about being part of a dynamic Legal team that covers a broad range of issues and strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Advising on all aspects of the formation and operation of Blue Owl’s private funds, including fund structuring and the preparation and negotiation of private placement memoranda, partnership agreements, side letters agreements, placement agreements and other fund documents

  • Managing and collaborating with external counsel and leading negotiations with counterparties

  • Advising on the various rules and regulations applicable to private fund offerings and addressing legal questions from internal business partners and investors 

  • Overseeing projects and initiatives to support compliance with fund documents, internal policies and processes and laws and regulations 

  • Supporting investment teams as needed on legal questions relating to private fund transactions

  • Fostering strong working relationships with key business partners to support client needs

  • Performing special projects and other responsibilities for the Legal team

Qualifications:

  • 2-8 years of experience at major law firm or in-house legal department working on private funds; experience with private credit funds preferred; experience with open-ended and closed-ended funds a plus

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school

  • At least one active bar membership/license to practice law in any state

  • Excellent planning and organization skills; meticulous attention to detail is a must

  • Excellent leadership and oral and written communication skills

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to roll up sleeves to get things done

  • Team player with enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity to learn more

It is expected that the base annual salary range for this New York City-based position will be $175,000-200,000. Actual salaries may vary based on factors, such as skill, experience, and qualification for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, based on factors such as individual and team performance.
