This position is located in the Office of Legal Services (OLS) within the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Inspector General (OIG). OLS provides legal advice and covering the full range of activities within the OIG, including investigations, audits, inspections, and evaluations. The office also advises on the Freedom of Information Act, Privacy Act of 1974, records management, congressional reports, Controlled Unclassified Information, the government ethics program and employee conduct.
Duties
Serves as the Counsel to the Inspector General and provides authoritative legal representation for the Inspector General. Conveys the Inspector General's official legal positions on all matters.
Provides independent legal interpretations and evaluations on complex and novel issues, frequently addressing matters without established legal precedent.
Manages and directs a legal program through a staff of attorneys who provide expert and independent legal counsel to the Inspector General, Senior Executives and agency supervisory personnel both in the national and regional and field offices.
Provides executive oversight of OIG's ethics and financial disclosure programs, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act compliance, Whistleblower protections, and Records Management functions.
Provides litigation and liaison services for matters before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Merit Systems Protection Board, and other personnel-related proceedings. Coordinates with the Office of the Solicitor, U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Justice, United States Attorney's Offices, and the U.S. Office of Special Counsel on matters involving OIG interests.
