Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized Paralegal with experience in logistics and contract management to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of legal processes, the logistics industry, and contracts within the logistics industry. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the legal department, the risk and compliance department, and ensuring the company’s operations comply with all relevant laws and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Legal, Risk and Compliance Support:  Provide multi-disciplinary support to the company’s Legal and Risk Management & Compliance Departments, as they address the legal, risk and compliance aspects of all corporate and operational functions of the company.  Provide general administrative support for these departments to include meeting coordination and scheduling. 
  • Contract Review and Drafting: Assist in drafting, reviewing, revising, proofreading, and negotiating contracts related to logistics operations, including non-disclosure agreements, transportation agreements, customer contracts, and other supply chain agreements. Help ensure all contracts comply with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Contract Management: Support the maintenance of an organized system for tracking contracts and compliance with contractual obligations. Assist in ensuring that key deadlines and renewal dates are met.  Manage the workflow, approval and execution processes for contracts.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Help ensure that all company activities are compliant with relevant laws, regulations and policies. Assist with internal reviews and compliance checks.
  • Dispute Resolution and Litigation Support: Assist with addressing legal disputes and litigation related to contracts, claims, service issues, and company operations. Prepare legal documentation and correspondence related to disputes and litigation.  Support discovery requests made in connection with claims and litigation. 
  • Document Preparation: Prepare legal documents such as amendments, contract summaries, and legal correspondence. Ensure that documents are accurate, clear, concise, and legally sound.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other internal teams to ensure legal, risk and compliance matters are properly addressed. Liaise with external parties (e.g., vendors, clients, and legal counterparts) as needed.
  • Risk Management: Assist in identifying potential legal risks in logistics operations and contracts. Provide support in mitigating these risks through proactive legal and operational strategies.
  • Policy Development and Training: Help draft and update internal policies and training materials on legal, compliance, and operational procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or related field. Paralegal certification preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience as a paralegal, with a focus on contracts and logistics or transportation law.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of logistics operations, and industry regulations and contracts.
  • Familiarity with key logistics concepts, including freight agreements, and supply chain management.
  • Familiarity with contract management software.
  • Knowledge of risk management processes and techniques in the logistics sector.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex legal documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain positive and constructive interactions with various stake holders advancing competing priorities

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Standard office environment, usually indoors away from the elements with moderate noise. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • Maintain a stationary position for extended periods; move about the office, operate computers and files, as needed; and frequently communicate with others. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally, the employee is required to lift boxes up to 20 pounds. 

SCHEDULING

  • This is a full-time benefits-eligible position, working Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. An employee in this position must be available to work occasionally on weekends and evenings, during peak periods. 

TRAVEL

  • Local travel is required. Out of state travel is limited, but may be required for special training/conferences.
