
Director, Senior Counsel, Legal
The role of Senior Counsel, Legal is a full-time attorney position within Asurion’s Legal Team and has responsibility to support drafting and negotiating of commercial client agreements, including external-facing contract negotiations. Senior Counsel, Legal will provide day-to-day support for Asurion’s General Manager Legal Counsel, client services and other business teams, including facilitating discussions designed to consistently provide cross-functional communication and guidance for activities requiring legal support.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic project leader, with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, strong time management, communication and prioritization skills, management experience, and prior corporate and commercial legal experience. This role will have a matrixed, dual reporting relationship with the VP, Associate General Counsel (the legal team member responsible for all client revenue contracts) and the VP, Associate General Counsel and GM Legal Counsel (the legal team member responsible for overseeing and leading all legal matters for a group of Asurion clients).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides support for client contract compliance and commercial matters
- Works to support client accounts, internal client needs, other client team members and act as a liaison and brokers creative solutions for relevant stakeholders
- Develops a thorough understanding of Asurion’s business, processes and goals to provide innovative legal solutions that solve unique or challenging problems
- Establishes strong collaborative relationships with cross functional team, including legal, program management, underwriting, finance, tax, treasury, supply chain management, and client services
- Demonstrates strong analytical skills and judgment to evaluate factual and qualitative information in complicated or novel situations
- Acts as a trusted advisor and leader to drive results/complete transactions & projects efficiently and effectively
- Actively seeks operational understanding and implications of initiatives and implements process improvements to streamline support
Qualified:
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to the bar
- 7-10+ years of relevant experience
- Experience in commercial transactions, including client agreement negotiations is required; in house, corporate experience is a plus; prior experience working with technology in a regulated industry is also a plus
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively understand, consider and address the internal client or business while mitigating risk exposure
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must possess strong judgment, confidence, collaborative problem-solving skills, and ability to spot potential issues quickly
- Must be able to independently handle a variety and number of legal matters with minimal supervision and manage other team members
- Professional interpersonal and organizational skills, and experience communicating with colleagues at various levels of the organization (support functions to executive team)
- Able to work well within a team environment, as well as individually, and collaborate effectively
- Schedules and prioritizes work and deliverables to ensure on-time response to a large variety of changing demands/requests/requirements
- Highly organized and driven to thoroughly understand the issue and the possible implications of legal guidance
- Demonstrates good analytical skills and judgment
- Ability and willingness to assist with additional matters as needed and assigned
