Job Summary

Case Managers are members of the Practice Support department who have more than ten years of experience.  They are assigned to either specific cases or practice areas, where they are responsible for delegating work assignments, assisting with substantive assignments, and interacting with clients.  Case Managers have a minimum billing requirement of 1600 hours per year.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support attorneys in performing or managing substantive assignments.
  • Manage cases from discovery to trial or settlement.
  • Troubleshoot and identify potential concerns, determines solutions or alternatives, and develop/implement a resolution.
  • Act as a liaison between clients and attorneys.
  • Investigate qualifications of expert witnesses by researching expert publications and testimony or reports to impeach them at trial.
  • Manage staffing and delegate assignments within practice group(s) or case(s).
  • Improve/automate systems, processes, and procedures to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and provide direction, mentoring, training, and evaluation of paralegals and project assistants.
  • Supervise temporary paralegal help assigned to the group.
  • Establish goals, accurately measure, and routinely recommend steps to meet or exceed department goals.
  • Complete factual and legal research (Westlaw, internet).
Qualifications

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Execute duties of the position efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Support attorneys in handling and managing of significant cases and complex work.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Self-motivated and analytical.
  • General knowledge of client’s organization.
  • Substantial knowledge of legal concepts, methodologies, and relevant area of law (e.g. litigation, IP, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail, including superior spelling and grammar.
  • Working knowledge of litigation databases (including but not limited to Relativity, Case Notebook, and CaseMap).
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with attorneys and clients.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Proficiency in cite checking briefs and legal memoranda.

Additional Essential Responsibilities

  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing less than 50 pounds.
  • Ability to be mobile to and from work and within Firm work spaces.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and outside parties.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to permit performance of job functions enumerated above.
  • Ability to travel or work overtime as necessary.

Education

The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree. Paralegal certificate from an ABA approved program desired.  Equivalent training and experience may substitute for education.

Experience

The position requires a minimum of ten (10) years of experience.

Experience directly managing personnel.

Trial experience.

Our Firm is committed to fair and equitable compensation practice in accordance with applicable laws. The salary for this position $106,000 to $140,000 per year. Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus. The salary for this position may vary based on location, market data, an applicant’s skills and prior experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other factors.
