The primary duty of the Social Worker/Victim Liaison is to provide support to both crime victims navigating the legal system and defendants with mental health challenges. Responsibilities include contacting victims to provide information on the complexities of the Competency Restoration and Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity processes, keeping them informed of case progress, and providing resources as needed. Additionally, the role involves establishing and developing relationships with partner agencies, including community service providers, to identify a network of mental health and social services available for discharge planning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a point of contact for victims and their families, keeping them informed about legal proceedings and offering support along with referrals to appropriate resources.
- Communicate and consult with supervisors, prosecutors, co-workers, and outside agencies as needed to ensure the best possible outcome for victims and survivors
- Support prosecutors by identifying appropriate resources and social services for individuals being considered for an alternate disposition outside of the competency restoration process or for post charge diversion.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Good written and oral communication skills in the English language
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information
- Ability to work well with public and staff members.
Required Education/Experience:
- Preferably two or more years of experience in social services
- Bachelor's degree in a social service field.
- Master's degree in social services field or LMSW preferred.
- Bilingual preferred.
Hours:
- This is a full time, in-person position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary based on the business needs of the department.
Salary (Starting):
- $29.49 hourly / $5,111.60 monthly / $61,339.20
