Position Overview
The Attorney Development Manager plays a pivotal role in fostering the professional growth and development of attorneys within the law firm. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing attorney training and development programs, as well as providing guidance and support to attorneys at all stages of their careers. The Attorney Development Manager collaborates with firm leadership, practice group leaders, and individual attorneys to identify learning needs, promote skill enhancement, and ensure continuous career advancement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Primary
- Work closely with attorneys to develop individual career paths and goals, providing guidance and resources for professional growth. Has an understanding of individual associate development at various levels.
- Develop strong relationships with associates. Conducts a regular check-in meetings with associates, using coaching skills to elicit concerns and support development. Continuously develops basic coaching skills through training, assessment and practice in everyday work.
- Provide support to the evaluation process by tracking evaluation status, scheduling review meetings and providing necessary materials.
- Monitor Real Time Feedback process.
- Works with the Talent Department and Talent Leads to ensure junior associates are equitably utilized.
- Communicates with integrity. Exercises judgment when sharing information. Presents complex issues in a constructive and professional manner. Generates a high degree of trust and support from colleagues, key stakeholders and decision makers.
- Shares information about projects and attorney development strategies with colleagues.
Secondary
- Contribute to other planning development initiatives and programs as requested.
- Contributes to solving attorney development challenges in collaboration with others.
- Understands how the AD team can support the goals and priorities of the different Talent departments (e.g., DE&l, recruiting, etc.).
- Contributes ideas for making the Attorney Development team more effective.
- Understands the necessity to operate with judgment in the ADM role and ability to handle confidential information. Identifies and raises risk issues in all aspects of attorney development function and knows when to call in additional support to mitigate risk.
