Position and Salary:
The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Paralegal 2 position in the Torts Division. The position is located in Tumwater, Washington, and is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE).
Paralegal 2 (Range 55) salary range: $61,644 - $82,872 (Effective 7/1/2025)

Some of What You'll Be Doing:
- Expertly drafting and editing pleadings, motions, discovery, and other documents in both state and federal courts with precision and persuasive clarity.
- Finetuning knowledge management and organizational processes to efficiently and productively manage case files and documents.
- Providing the superior support and preparation needed for depositions, hearings, and trials.
- Leading logistical analysis while coordinating discovery and document production.
- Skillfully navigating e-filing requirements and court systems with ease, leveraging digital fluency to streamline submissions and filings.
- Being the go-to person that our attorneys can count on to support our mission of providing excellent legal services for the State of Washington

Qualifications:

Combination of four years of experience* through:
- Paralegal certification
- Two-year paralegal degree
- Paralegal plus (or nine-month paralegal, post BA) certification,
and/or
- Paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney
OR
- One year experience as a Paralegal 1 in Washington State Service.
*You may have gained applicable paraprofessional experience through previous Paralegal or Legal Assistant work.
Examples of paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney:
- Preparing legal pleadings and legal correspondence
- Ensuring and verifying timely and proper service of legal documents
- Calculating, verifying, and calendaring critical events and other dates
- Managing case documents, files and exhibits
- Tracking and organizing discovery documents
- Researching legal issues and verifying legal citations and references for accuracy
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Technical Skills
- Case Management – Strong organizational skills for managing case files, including tracking deadlines, court dates, and important case milestones.
- Discovery Management – Knowledge of managing the discovery process, including preparing requests for production, interrogatories, and reviewing incoming discovery responses.
- Document Review & Analysis – Reviewing and organizing large volumes of documents in response to discovery requests, subpoenas, or court orders, including identifying key facts and evidence.
- Witness Preparation – Assisting with witness preparation and coordinating the logistics of witness testimony during trials or depositions
- Trial Preparation – Talent for preparing trial exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders, as well as assisting attorneys in preparing for depositions, hearings, and trials.
Research and Analytical Abilities
- Critical Thinking – Ability to think critically and analyze legal issues, facts, and evidence to support case strategies.
- Fact Gathering – Ability to investigate and gather facts from various sources, including interviews, research, and document review, to build a strong case.
Technology and IT Skills
- Microsoft Office Suite – Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook for document creation, data organization, and communication.
- Document Management Systems – Understanding of document management systems (e.g., iManage, NetDocuments) to store, categorize, and track legal files.
- Case Management Software – Familiarity with case management tools like FileVine, Law Manger, or Clio to manage client communications and case timelines.
