POSITION SUMMARY:


The Legal Investigator plays a key role in supporting attorneys with the investigation and preparation of legal cases. This includes gathering evidence, conducting interviews, analyzing legal documents, and assisting with research to build strong cases for litigation and pre-suit activities. The Legal Investigator ensures that all pertinent facts are uncovered to support the legal strategy and assist attorneys in achieving favorable client outcomes.

Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Locate and interview witnesses pursuant to GOLDLAW’s outlines and procedures. 
  • Locate and review documents.  
  • Serve subpoenas.   
  • Prepare written memorandums of investigations for presentation to GOLDLAW attorneys. 
  • Analyze and summarize key information from witness statements, police reports, and other legal documents. 
  • Collect and preserve physical evidence, digital records, and other relevant documentation from clients.
  • Work closely with attorneys, paralegals, and other legal professionals to ensure timely and accurate case preparation. Take scene and/or injury photos, videos and upload them into the GOLDLAW case management system.
  • Take basic measurements of items such as stairways and elevation differences.
  • Travel to client’s location for signature of contracts and other documents.
  • Participate in strategy meetings and offer insights based on investigation findings.
  • Do in-person intakes when necessary.
  • Other projects as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law, or a related field is preferred.
  • Additional certifications in legal investigations or paralegal studies are a plus.
  • High School or equivalent with 5 plus years experience 
  • Optional of 2 -3 years’ experience in customer service or call center professional. 

CORE COMPETENCIES:


- • A valid Florida Notary Commission is required, or requirements for Commission met with acquisition of the Commission within ____ days of commencing employment. 

  • A valid Florida Driver's License and a demonstrated consistently safe driving record. Customer service skills to make prospective clients feel welcome.
  • High-level listening skills to gain a thorough understanding of claims.
  • Proficient in the use of a personal computer and hand-held smart device and the following apps: MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), OneDrive, and SharePoint, and willing to use her/his own such device for work purposes. 
  • Acceptance of training to proficiency in the apps MS OneDrive and SharePoint, Paylocity, JitBit, Filevine, Zoom, and Ninety.
  • The candidate may be required to train to be proficient in New Client Intake processing.
  • The candidate should possess general proficiency in the use of a document scanner, printer and photostatic copy machine. 
  • Proficiency in the use of a digital camera, especially a smart device camera, is required. Knowledge of various camera features, such as panorama and zoom are preferred.
  • A background in professional investigation, law enforcement, and the like is valuable.
  • The candidate would be analytical and detail-oriented, able to multi-task under deadlines.
  • Maintaining confidentiality is a requirement.
  • Physically, the candidate should be able to operate a range of motor vehicle types, from compact sedan to SUV or ‘Crossover’ type. 
  • Must be able to lift to waist-level height an object weighing up to 30 lbs., alone, or to lift up to 50 lbs. with a co-worker.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a professional office setting as well as working out in the field with the public at events. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. Manual dexterity, physical mobility, and some physical strength/stamina.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to successfully complete most office tasks that require any physicality, which is limited in this position.
