The Chief supervises a staff of two attorneys and a legal secretary. The Chief assigns clients to each respective attorney and ensures that client requests are handled in a timely fashion. The Chief provides guidance to junior attorneys regarding legal matters and in managing client relationships. The Chief is responsible for mentoring junior attorneys and setting the standard for professional conduct and competent legal service. The Chief ensures that the legal secretary completes assigned administrative tasks, as required.
Normal Working Hours: 7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. Monday – Friday (variable shift/hours may apply) - Duties/Responsibilities
- Supervision of Civil Division staff;
- Representing and advising the County, its elected officials and various departments, agencies, boards, and commissions of Greene County;
- Initiating and defending against litigation in courts and administrative agencies on behalf of various clients, including elected officials;
- Ensuring compliance with public records law;
- Providing legal opinions to County officials, boards, and commissions on all legal matters affecting county government, including general legal compliance, employment matters, land acquisition, and contract negotiation;
- Representing county officials, county agencies, and county employees in specialized litigation;
- Advising and representing boards of township trustees on a wide variety of matters, including land use and zoning matters;
- Must be available to work in the office on a daily basis and have the ability to meet and work outside the normal working hours;
- Performing all other duties assigned to, delegated to, or required of the Civil Division Chief;
- Ensuring that employees under their supervision comply with all applicable office and county directives and standards of professional conduct; and,
- Maintaining the highest standards of professional conduct
- Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: Juris Doctor
Applicants must be licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio. Applicants must have a minimum of six years’ experience in civil practice. Preferred applicants will have at least five years of experience in the civil representation of county government and/or township government clients in the State of Ohio. This position is full time; no private practice is allowed.

Pay and Benefits:
Salary range is from $85,000.00 to $100,000.00, depending upon experience. Attorneys are unclassified employees who serve at the pleasure of the Prosecuting Attorney. Position includes full benefits, including health care, vacation, sick leave, Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility, wellness incentives, Employee Assistant Plan, Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, and an optional 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan. Continuing legal education credits are also available.
