Legal Intern – For Summer 2025
The Town of Mooresville is seeking motivated candidates for a legal internship in the summer of 2025. The individual will have the opportunity to perform legal research, review and writing on a variety of local government issues, assist in drafting Town ordinances and resolutions, assist in reviewing emails and documents for response to public records requests and discovery, learn about municipal operations and the role of municipal attorneys, observe various board meetings and procedures, and collaborate with the Town’s Legal Department. This position is ideal for candidates wishing to obtain an understanding of the intricacies of local government law.- Distinguishing Features of the Class
Qualifications sought include a basic knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and a strong attention to detail. Candidates should have the ability to think critically and anticipate how an issue may affect the Town; the ability to present complex ideas effectively in oral and written form; the ability to understand and review contracts and legal terminology; and the ability to exercise sound judgement and decision-making skills under the supervision of an attorney.

- Minimum Education and Experience
To be eligible for the position, a candidate must be a law student currently enrolled in an ABA accredited law school who is proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point), Adobe, and legal research programs such as LexisNexis. The term of the internship will run from roughly mid-May to mid-August, depending on semester dates. This is a paid internship. A successful internship has the potential to lead to other paid project assignments during the following academic year.
