This is senior level attorney position in the Police Accountability Board responsible for providing legal research, advice, and opinions. General supervision is provided by the Director of Investigations of the Police Accountability Board. Related work is performed as required.
CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.- Typical Work Activities
- Conducts legal research and renders legal opinions in the Police Accountability Board’s Executive Office, Investigations Division, or Oversight & Policy Division;
- Assists General Counsel in service as legal counsel to various Board units, Board employees acting in an official capacity;
- Drafts, reviews, and implements oversight investigations, legislative and policy proposals, and administrative rules in the Oversight & Policy Division;
- Assists in investigating instances of potential officer wrongdoing in the Investigations Division by responding to scenes of critical incidents; collecting documents, videos, and photographs; interviewing witnesses and officers; and analyzing evidence;
- Enforces the Board’s policies by drafting evidentiary reports to be presented to the Police Accountability Board;
- Presents facts and law to Board panels at evidentiary hearings;
- Performs legal work necessary to bring accountability and transparency to the powers exercised by sworn officers of the Rochester Police Department.
- Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a law school of recognized standing AND two (2) years of experience as an attorney admitted to practice in New York State.
