
- Summary
A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park’s existing operational success. The purpose of the position is to assist the Court Administrator with supervising and overseeing the Municipal Court's daily operations.
- Essential Functions
Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate available guidelines and procedures, as well as interpret precedents.This position provides support for the Court Administrator, the Judges, Prosecutors, Attorneys, and other agencies as warranted.Work involves processing court cases as directed by the court administrator and maintaining municipal court records in accordance with prevailing laws, municipal policies, and procedures.
- Processes citations for payment of fines, including entering citations into the case management system, retrieving and reporting drivers’ or criminal histories, and preparing documents for police department and court processing.
- Maintains the court docket, including scheduling of court dates.
- Obtains defendant’s plea, rescheduling and transferring cases, preparing necessary paperwork for diversion programs, documenting sentences as directed by the judge for probation or fine payment, scheduling court dates for arraignments, motions, and trials, and coordinating with officers’ schedules.
- Prepare orders required for sentencing and release.
- Reports disposition of citations to the Department of Driver Services and Georgia Crime Information Center.
- Informs defendants, witnesses, and attorneys of court dates and provides routine information to the public.
- Monitors National and State crime information systems (GCIC/NCIC) and performs data inquiries on driver’s licenses, vehicle registration, criminal histories, and outstanding warrants related to Municipal Court Cases. Works incoordination with the Police Terminal Agency Coordinator for the GCIC information system, including training and security.
- Processes motions filed by attorneys on cases.
- Processes failure to appear cases and generates correspondence necessary to notify offenders of case status.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles and practice of court and record center processes and management.
- Knowledge of jail, probation, and public defense best practices and legal requirements.
- Knowledge of the Public disclosure law of the State of Georgia.
- Knowledge of current Municipal Court and related city issues and stakeholders, both internal and external, as well as other governmental legislative and agency processes, players, and issues.
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations affecting the work of the Municipal Court.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn the department's rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of all municipal functions, contacts, and activities of various departments.
- Ability to interpret, explain, and apply complex guidelines, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to understand and follow quickly and accurately oral and written instructions.
- Ability to understand and apply available guidelines to varied operational requirements, and to follow clearly stated oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate, meet, and deal with the public and employees in a pleasant, courteous manner.

- Must be able to type or use a personal computer with word processing and related software and to enter and retrieve information with reasonable speed and accuracy.
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds, standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

- Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Five (5) consecutive years of progressively responsible experience in a municipal court system.
- Must be GCIC, CJIS Network Operator, and CCHS certified or able to obtain within three (3) months of employment.
- Must have attended a state-certified municipal court clerk training course no more than twelve months prior to application for the position.
- Valid Georgia State driver’s license and good driving record. Must submit a three-year driving record abstract prior to hire.
- Pre-employment screening is required: criminal background check and drug testing.
