
Equip for Equality is the federally mandated, governor appointed Protection & Advocacy organization for people with disabilities in the state of Illinois. We are hiring a Staff Attorney in our Civil Rights Team who will focus primarily on Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) and services from Centers for Independent Living (CILs).
The position is funded primarily by the Client Assistance Program (CAP), a federal grant, and may also be funded by other federal or state grants for people with traumatic brain injuries, assistive technology needs, or services from the Social Security Administration, or Access to Justice, among others.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- A law degree from an accredited law school.
- A license to practice law in Illinois, or passage of the Illinois Bar Examination within one year of employment.
- Minimum of 1 year of civil legal experience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to civil rights and disability rights.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with low-income and diverse client populations.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Personal and/or professional experience with people with disabilities
- Fluency in Spanish or another language used by our clients
- Understanding of the VR and the ADA
