We offer application assistance and support to low-income individuals and families who may qualify for CalWORKs, CalFresh, MediCal, MediCal Redetermination, as well as provide support for eligible families applying for WIC. Our main objective is to educate and inform the community about the eligibility criteria for these public benefits and WIC, raising awareness about these programs, and assisting individuals and families through the process of completing online applications via Benefits Cal or assisting with the WIC enrollment process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide Eligibility assessments for interested families who are potentially eligible for CalWORKs, CalFRESH, MediCal, MediCal Redetermination, and WIC.
- Assist interested families with submitting applications for CalWORKs, CalFRESH, MediCal, and WIC.
- Provide support and assistance to families who have submitted CalWORKs, CalFRESH, MediCal, and MediCal Redetermination applications to ensure eligible families are approved for the benefits.
- Provide follow-up support to families who have submitted CalWORKs, CalFRESH, MediCal, MediCal Redetermination and WIC applications.
- Survey families that submitted Public Benefits applications to determine program knowledge.
- Distribute flyers and other marketing materials to promote program services.
- Take part in in outreach/tabling and community events to provide program information to potentially eligible families.
- Maintain a professional attitude and appearance as a Catholic Charities representative.
- Maintain accurate and verifiable documentation of all services rendered.
- Provide telephone availability and customer service for communitymembers during the workday.
- Participate in staff meetings and interdepartmental /agency-wide activities.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, State, Federal and Health Home Network regulations and agency policies.
- Participate in all mandatory training.
- Must be available for non traditional business hours for weekend and evening events.
- Represent CCSCC on appropriate boards and committees as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Customer service or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of the scope and activities of public and private health and social service agencies, faith-based organizations and public assistance programs in the Bay Area and specifically Santa Clara County
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Multilingual in a language commonly spoken by immigrants living in Santa Clara County (Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, Korean, etc.)
- Word processing proficiency.
- Computer skills for inputting information to complete Santa Clara County Public Benefits application and PG&E FERA application information.
- Confidentiality: Job requires and adheres to California law regarding Welfare and Institution Code 5328.
- Excellent customer services; Friendly, dependable,flexible, and a team player.
- Ability to deal with the public in a helpful and supportive manner, including interviewing skills. Interviewing skills training will be provided as needed.
- Team driven and positive attitude.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Ability to travel to agency sites within Santa Clara County
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Criminal background check via livescan fingerprint
- Must have TB test performed and submit results
- Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster status
- Automobile, valid driver’s license and auto insurance per agency policy; or have access to reliable transportation
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work will be indoors and outdoors even in inclement weather.
- Work will require traveling within Santa Clara County and working a flexible work schedule to support weekend and evening events.
- Business casual dress code is required. During outreach/tabling events staff members will be required to wear black pants or dark jeans, CCSCC T-Shirt or Polo shirt, and CCSCC employee badge. No tights or any other color pants.
HOURS AND OTHER CONDITIONS:
- Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Some off hours may be needed for program support and assistance, and events.
