Procurement Counsel
The Procurement Counsel, located in Houston, TX, will serve a critical role in supporting Nouryon’s procurement organization. They must be an experienced contract manager and negotiator and will be responsible for the legal aspects of procurement contracts. The Procurement Counsel must have sound and practical legal, ethical, and commercial judgment; must be able to prioritize matters; must be problem-solver and a self-starter who will communicate clearly. They need to act with a high level of independence, while being a team player and comfortable with engagement at all levels in both the procurement team and the legal group. This role will report to the Deputy General Counsel.

In your future role as Procurement Counsel you will
- Provide legal services and support to the Nouryon global procurement team including the drafting and hands-on negotiation of a variety of commercial and other procurement agreements.
- Manage contracts, contract tools and contract intake processes.
- Maintain procurement contract templates and provide training to colleagues within the procurement team.
- Utilize legal knowledge to support international matters from time to time.
- Provide legal support for other matters as they arise.
- Strong academic credentials, including a J.D. or equivalent degree from a well-respected U.S. law school.
- License to practice in at least one state.
- 3-6+ years relevant working experience, experience within a multinational in-house legal department is a significant advantage.
- Must be a contract law generalist with substantial legal knowledge in contract and commercial law and basic knowledge of legal topics such as corporate law, competition law, litigation law, intellectual property (IP) law and general compliance topics.
- Extensive experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements and other legal documents (including purchase of goods and services contracts, consultancy agreements, IT agreements, licensing agreements, outsourcing contracts, and engineering contracts).
- Excellent contract management experience, including use of procurement contract management tools/systems; managing and tracking the development of contract negotiations worldwide; and ability to prioritize based on urgency, contract value and risk.
- Team Player – ability to work well and build relationships across all levels of the organization and be highly effective and able to maximize the efficiency of the procurement department, but still be self-motivated and able to work independently; have the desire to work on numerous matters arising in a procurement department; ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in other offices around the world.
