Position Summary
The Intake Paralegal is the primary point of contact for potential clients. The position receives incoming phone calls, qualifies potential clients, and follows established intake procedures. The Intake Paralegal is the first contact a prospective client has with the firm and serves as a guide throughout the intake process. As there is a high volume of incoming contacts, this position requires organization, and the ability to multi-task.
Essential Duties and Functions
- Promptly responding to individuals who are contacting the Firm for potential representation and gathering comprehensive information about their legal matter through telephone interviews and email correspondence;
- Preparing a written preliminary summary for review by an attorney for further action;
- Requesting, reviewing, and filing relevant documentation from potential clients;
- Performing initial conflict checks;
- Scheduling initial consultation appointments for potential clients with attorneys;
- Tracking potential client activity, from initial contact through representation or matter closure, in case management software systems and reports;
- Conducting follow-ups with attorneys, as needed, on next steps for potential representation after initial consultations
Basic Qualifications
- 0 -1 year of related experience performing the duties of a paralegal or related position
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
- Proficient at taking notes quickly either by hand or typing
- Proficient at proofreading, editing, and formatting documents
- Detail-oriented, highly motivated, and able to manage multiple deadlines at once
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including providing good client relations
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with different personalities and varying schedules
- Ability to read and annotate large or voluminous sets of documents, including medical and payroll records
Education/Certifications
- Associates degree and/or related experience is required
Desired Skills
- Experience in handling high volume of incoming telephone calls
- Knowledge of employment discrimination laws
Salary Range: $25.00 - $28.00/ hour
