Are you interested in joining a Fortune 500 company's exciting summer internship program for a first-hand look at global risk management? Markel is seeking rising 3Ls for its 2025 Summer Claims Legal Internship.

The 10-week internship program offers cross-disciplined legal internship opportunities providing interns with valuable projects, mentorship opportunities, educational sessions and potential future employment opportunities.

As a Markel Claims Legal Intern, you will gain valuable hands-on experience working in our stimulating work environment. You will apply your educational insights and learning in a real-world business setting as you gain knowledge about the insurance industry. You will have a broad range of responsibilities from across the Claims organization which may include legal research projects, drafting legal opinions, contract review, and claims-handling tasks to support the various functions within the Claims organization at Markel. The 2025 Summer Claims Legal Internship Program runs from June 2 to August 8. This is a paid internship.

Markel's Internship program will provide you with exposure to Claims including but not limited to claims operations, claims coverage, claims litigation and claims compliance.

Qualifications:

    • Law student in good standing from an ABA accredited law school (rising 3L)
    • Strong academic performance (3.0 GPA minimum)
    • Highly adaptable and comfortable with fast pace and shifting priorities.
    • Detail-oriented and well-organized.
    • Strong desire to learn and apply knowledge.
    • Confident and intellectually curious.
    • Excellent analytical ability and legal research and drafting skills.
    • Ability to exhibit effective communication and interpersonal skills with high degree of professionalism.
    • Ability to work in Chicago, IL for the summer. Housing and relocation are not provided.

Pay information:

The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The hourly salary for the position is $21.00 to $28.50 with a 0% bonus potential.
