Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) seeks one Directing Attorney - Centralized Intake Unit Call Center (JP# 007-2025) for its Houston Branch Offices.
LSLA is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit law firm and its mission is to protect and advance the civil rights of low-income Texans by providing advocacy, legal representation, and community education that ensure equal access to justice.
Job Summary
Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) is in the process of reviewing and updating its Intake Practices and Standards and seeks a Directing Attorney to be responsible for LSLA’s CIU Call Center. This position requires extensive familiarity with the delivery of legal services and a proven record of practicing poverty law. The ability to relate to our client community, the local private bar, other legal aid providers, and staff is required.
Summary of ResponsibilitiesThe Directing Attorney will oversee the day-to-day operation of LSLA’s CIU Call Center and supervise its staff, both rural and urban, ensuring compliance with Federal LSLA and LSC policies, while providing high volume intakes and high- quality advice.
Requirements
Minimum Education and Experience
• Graduate of an accredited Law School
• Licensed to practice in Texas or qualify for reciprocity
• Three years of successful state and/or federal litigation experience as demonstrated in completed job application
• Demonstrated excellent management or supervisory skills through previous work experience
• Familiarity with Federal Regulations, LSC Regulations and Performance Criteria
• High level familiarity with LSLA Case Management System

• Strong commitment to LSLA’s mission to ensure equal justice and proven record of providing high quality legal representation to our clients
• Proven ability to collaborate with a team, represent LSLA to a rich diversity of people, communities, and institutions, and develop creative solutions to complex problems
• Lots of patience, energy, and enthusiasm with a proven record of working and making decisions under pressure
• Ability to teach legal skills and supervise legal work to Attorneys, Paralegals, Volunteers, and Support Staff
Mental and Aptitude• Must be able to apply logical thinking to a wide range of practical and legal problems while dealing with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Location: The successful applicant must have reliable transportation to travel throughout the counties served by this office.
