This position is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
This posting is for an Assistant United States Attorney to serve in the Criminal Division in the Cedar Rapids office.
All AUSAs in the Northern District of Iowa handle a broad range of criminal prosecutions and investigations. If selected for this position, you will focus on white-collar crimes, such as fraud, money laundering, national security offenses, and telecommunications offenses. You may also be assigned matters such as drug, firearms, immigration, child exploitation, and violent-crime offenses.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
- You must be a United States Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.
- Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district specific information.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
United States citizenship is required.
AUSAs do their own legal research and writing and must be substantially self-sufficient in preparing day-to-day correspondence and pleadings. You must be proficient in the use of computers.
Preferred Qualifications:
You will be a preferred applicant if you have:
- Experience prosecuting federal or white-collar crimes or as a federal law clerk with significant responsibility for criminal cases;
- Excellent oral and written advocacy skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including experience working with multi-agency task forces and other law-enforcement officials;
- Experience with federal grand-jury practice; and
- Experience preparing appellate briefs and presenting appellate arguments.
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree.
