Job Description

Job Description:The Vice President and Deputy General Counsel will provide legal advice on a wide variety of business matters that may include employment litigation, employment counseling, labor counseling, and other regulatory matters as they arise. He or she will report to and play a strong backup role to the General Counsel and assume a leadership role for major projects and additional legal issues, as designated by the General Counsel.

Education/Experience/Skills Requirements:
 

Education:

  • Juris Doctor Degree or Equivalent from an Accredited Law School – Required
     

Additional Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of 7 years of broad-based sophisticated legal experience, including advising on employee relations, workplace policies, and compliance with federal and state labor regulations in a healthcare setting.

  • Proven track record in handling employment litigation, including defending the hospital in employment-related claims, wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour issues, and other employment disputes.

  • Skilled in managing and coordinating with outside counsel for complex labor and employment litigation, ensuring effective strategy, cost control, and timely resolution of cases.

  • Experience negotiating and drafting  contracts, including vendor and other contracts.

  • Demonstrates flexibility and a strong willingness to learn and adapt to new practice areas, providing legal advice and support across a wide range of issues as the hospital’s needs evolve.
     

Certifications/Licensures:

  • State Bar of California – member in good standing
     

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently manage outside counsel.

  • Excellent analytical, risk assessment and problem-solving skills combined with good judgment, strong business acumen, and the ability to place legal concerns into the larger business framework.

  • Politically astute and skilled at effectively communicating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and in writing, with an awareness of the impact of those communications on legal as well as public relations issues.

  • Strong persuasive and diplomatic skills combined with effective dispute resolution skills.

Work Shift:Exempt Salaried (United States of America)

Pay Range:

$373,568.00 - $560,352.00Salary
Offer amounts are based on demonstrated/relevant experience and/or licensure.
Pay will be adjusted to the local market if hired outside of the Bay Area.

Note: Positions at JMH which are exempt (not eligible for overtime) under the level of Manager are listed as hourly for compensation purposes on this posting. The work shift will contain the word ‘exempt’ on it.
