Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing substantive legal support to the Western District of Pennsylvania. Typical work assignments include: - Serving as a technician in the area of financial litigation and is responsible for directly and independently supporting Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) by providing a wide variety of technical assistance services. - Performs a wide range of technical support duties involving the processing of cases within the financial litigation function. - Using a variety of automated systems to conduct research, initiate documents for debt collection actions and track debtor accounts. - Using common online resources, obtains and analyzes routine financial information on debtors to determine their present and future potential ability to pay. - Communicates with debtors to present options for debt payments, answer questions, explain pertinent procedures, clarify information, and work cases to resolution. - Prepares payment plans which involve reviewing financial asset information the debtor has submitted. - Performs periodic internal control audits of financial litigation and debt collection case records to ensure accuracy of program operations. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications
GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level. Specialized experience is defined as communicating with debtors on payment plans, answering questions, explaining procedures regarding financial litigation; processing debt collection for criminal and civil debts; drafting, preparing letters, forms and reports to initiate the collection of debts. GS-8: To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as performing internal control audits of financial litigation and debt collection; investigating complicated financial assets and transactions and providing analyses of information from debtors; interpreting and enforcing judgments in criminal cases pertaining to financial litigation to include criminal fines, assessments, interests, penalties, restitution, criminal forfeitures, bond forfeitures and court costs; participating in decisions concerning post judgment remedies such as garnishments and judgments debtor examinations.
