ATTORNEY-ADVISER

The Office of Risk and Strategy (ORS) within the Division of Examinations is hiring one position for an Attorney-Adviser, SK-0905-16 in Atlanta, GA, Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, Denver, CO, Fort Worth, TX, Los Angeles, CA, Miami, FL, New York, NY, Philadelphia, PA, San Francisco, CA, or Washington, DC. This position will oversee an office responsible for risk identification and data and analytical projects.

If selected, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for risk identification, data and analytical projects - both created within the Office of Intelligence and Research and as part of larger Commission-wide work streams with internally created and commercially available products.

As an Attorney-Adviser, you will:

• Provide leadership and legal advice to examiners, attorneys, and senior leadership on all matters relating to Tips, Complaints, and Referrals (TCR);
• Develop and direct the EXAMS TCR Program, including creating and implementing policies and procedures, leading or participating in committees and working groups relating to TCRs, and developing training and other guidance for Division TCR POCs and Division staff;
• Represent the Division in high-level meetings, conferences, and presentations involving a wide range of participants within and external to the SEC;
• Manage the TCR process within EXAMS, including driving risk identification efforts, applying expert knowledge to triage and assignment of TCRs and serving as EXAMS TCR Administrator and as EXAMS-HQ POC for TCRs; an
• Serve as technical lead for TCR System (current and future designs).

Salary

• $156,900 - $284,600/year

• This position is eligible to request telework in accordance with the SEC 's telework policy.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: All applicants must possess the following

• J.D. or LL.B. degree --AND--
• Active membership of the bar in good standing in any state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the commonwealth of Puerto Rico. (Note: proof of bar membership will be required before entry on duty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement.

SK-16: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-14 level. Specialized experience includes:

1. Researching, preparing, and delivering guidance on a variety of complex legal issues arising from interpretation and application of federal securities laws, rules and regulations;
2. Representing an organization at briefings, meetings, or conferences; AND
3. Drafting and editing memoranda, filings or other substantive written work product for various audiences on a variety of complex legal issues.
