Key Responsibilities The Public Protection Department of the Utah Attorney General’s Office has an opening for a full-time attorney in its Commercial Enforcement Division, focused on enforcing professional licensing laws and acting as counsel for the Utah Department of Commerce. This includes driving litigation in administrative venues and in state and federal courts. Our team operates in the fast-paced, meaningful, and challenging world of affirmative enforcement. Our work includes litigating to stop fraudulent contractors, ensuring healthcare licensees are providing ethical care within their scope of practice, combatting abuse against elders and other vulnerable populations, and halting unlicensed practice. The Commercial Enforcement Division’s mission is to make Utah’s marketplace safe and fair by combating unlawful commercial activities and building trust in our economic landscape. We work collaboratively with our client agencies and federal and state partners to: Ø regulate the professional standards for over fifty professions, from midwives to funeral services and nearly everything in between (the Professional Licensing Section); Ø stop the unlicensed and fraudulent sales of securities and commodities, and oversee the professional standards for real estate brokers, appraisers, and mortgage lenders (the Securities & Real Estate Section); and Ø protect consumers from deceptive and unfair business practices (the Consumer Section). Successful applicants will be mission driven; able to work independently and proactively with their own caseload; assist other attorneys and staff; collaborate with clients; maintain high professional standards; and set and meet meaningful goals. We are looking for colleagues who are inspired by public interest work; who are strong listeners, writers, and communicators; who are skilled in civil litigation and trials; and who have an enthusiasm for being part of a team.
