The Senior Counsel position will have responsibility for a wide variety of general legal matters affecting the company, with a strong emphasis on employment law. The successful candidate requires a strong background in managing employment issues, ideally as in-house counsel for a company in the CPG or manufacturing space. Other general legal experience is strongly desired, but more important is the candidate’s demonstrated ability to develop pragmatic business solutions to legal problems, strong communication and collaboration skills, and a passion for problem solving.
This position reports to the Associate General Counsel and is on-site, based out of our Anoka, Minnesota office.
As Senior Counsel, you will:
- Provide advice and counsel on all aspects of employment-related matters, including immigration, hiring and termination issues, reorganization/restructuring, discrimination, harassment and retaliation, leaves of absence, disability leaves and accommodations, employee policies, wage and hour issues, restrictive covenants, proper employee and contractor classification, statutory employee issues, workers compensation claims, employee benefits, and conducting and/or advising internal investigations.
- Manage and direct outside counsel and HR team on employment litigation, reviewing pleadings, developing strategy, facilitating the gathering of information (documents, interviews), and making recommendations at key stages in the process.
- Counsel business partners on emerging legislative and regulatory changes including but not limited to employment and labor obligations in multi-jurisdictional operations.
- Review, interpret, and draft company policies and procedures, provide proactive training to the business on a variety of legal matters.
- Handle corporate generalist activities - willingness and ability to manage shifting priorities over a range of legal matters while identifying actionable solutions that meet client needs while maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and The Kinetic Group policies.
- Develop professional credibility and relationships with internal and external stakeholders as well as manage relationships with outside counsel.
You will have:
- J.D. from a U.S. accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in Minnesota, or at least one U.S. jurisdiction with the ability to waive in the Minnesota bar.
- 5 years of legal experience practicing in employment law.
- Experience with administrative complaints and lawsuits.
- Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent business acumen, an outgoing personality, and the ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
- Display a clear passion for the Kinetic Group lifestyle and its brands; a personal or professional passion for the outdoor industry, specifically in the hunt/shoot industry, is strongly desired.
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize, coordinate, and satisfy numerous competing demands.
- Demonstrated skills in client management and the ability to communicate effectively and develop strong working relationships with senior management and business colleagues.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to professionalism, integrity, and collegiality.
- Superior written and oral communication skills.
- Candidate should be empathetic, have excellent professional judgement and is required to have a good sense of humor.
- Corporate Generalist experience: commercial contracting, compliance, regulatory, corporate governance, litigation, etc. experience a plus.
Work Environment:
Employee work assignments may include tasks working with and/or exposure to potentially hazardous areas, including flammables and explosives. Safety training is provided to all employees to ensure compliance with company and federal regulations.
Pay Range:
$145,800.00 - $204,200.00The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
