Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY


Develops, coordinates, and manages the Victim Assistance Program. Provides information, assistance, and support to victims, witnesses, and Deputy District Attorneys in cases filed for prosecution in court. Administers and oversees the Victim Compensation Program including working directly with the Victim Compensation Board; ensures compliance to state standards.

WHAT YOU WILL DO


  • Exercises direct, first-level supervision of positions, employees, operations and activities. Includes coordinating staff training, assigning and reviewing work, participating in the interview and selection process, making recommendations impacting pay, status and disciplinary action, evaluating performance independently or in conjunction with a higher-level supervisor/manager and approving time off and approving staff timesheets. 
  • Contacts victims and maintains ongoing liaison with them during the criminal justice process; provides referrals for victims; explains court procedures and their rights; accompanies victims to court, independently driving County vehicle as needed or appropriate; provides ongoing assistance and support. Maintains contact with attorneys regarding cases.
  • Counsels victims in the procedures of the criminal justice system and arranges for compensation and other entitlements and services.
  • Coordinates and administers the Victim Compensation Program; works directly with the Victim Compensation Board and complies to the State Standards for the Victim Compensation Program; maintains goals, objectives, and priorities for Program.
  • Serves on committees, boards, and task forces as a member, leader and representative of the office. Coordinates with community organizations; makes presentations, arranges, and attends meetings, fundraisers, and special events; maintains contact with organizations and individuals regarding programs.
  • Provides staff support and coordination to grant awarding board.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.

WHAT YOU HAVE


EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Counseling, Social Work, or related field 

EXPERIENCE:
  • 3 years or more of Public Program Administration, Criminal Justice, or Counseling experience required
  • 1 year or more of Supervisory experience required

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Colorado Driver’s License required by time of hire
