Job purpose
The Paralegal is responsible for assisting in the monitoring and maintenance of the ongoing Litigation cases. This person will be required to use analytical and critical thinking skills when completing work. This person will work effectively with a variety of Firm members and clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Case Management:
- Assist Attorney with case management that includes communication with opposing parties and clients
- File legal documents with using the court’s required method.
- Prepare Attorney for hearings and occasional trials, receive hearing and trial results from Attorney and Court, and communicate results to the client.
- Retrieve, review, and analyze specific dockets and all incoming mail received through the physical mail or through the Court’s Electronic Case Filing system. Make Attorneys and/or clients aware of any situation(s) that may require attention.
- Perform investigations for identification and location of parties, file summonses with court, choose process servers, maintain contact and specific instruction to process servers and private investigators.
Document Preparation:
- Assist in the preparation of legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, responses, objections, and notices.
- Research for missing information and documents, and request from client, if needed.
- Edit and revise documents as instructed by Attorney and Client.
Legal and Factual Research:
- Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, and court rules.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Legal experience or an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred
- Intermediate knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office Programs
- Strong data entry and word processing skills
Working Conditions
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Requirements
The ability to work in an office environment, in front of a computer, while drafting documents, responding to emails, managing calendars and answering phones.
This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products, supplies, and files, up to 20 pounds.
