Job Summary (basic description)

The immigration paralegal will prepare or file online all USCIS forms and draft supporting legal letters for all types of visas/applications/petitions.

Essential Functions

  • Assist attorneys with preparing and filing of immigration applications, including immigrant visa petitions, applications for permanent residency, naturalization. applications, including PERMs, Preference Petitions and Adjustment of Status Applications.
  • Liaise with government agencies including USCIS, ICE, CBP, US Department of State, and US Department of Labor.
  • Analyze, review and organize documents and data; coordinate document production and response requests.
  • Draft job descriptions and other related documents.
  • Upload, track and manage documentation in Pathways system.
  • Assist attorneys in gathering evidence, preparing declarations and supporting documents, and ensuring compliance with procedural requirements and filing deadlines for Immigration Court cases.
  • Obtain civil and criminal court records relevant to immigration matters.
  • Analyze case details, recommend next steps, and prepare responses to audit requests.  
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking and initiative in handling case assignments.
  • Maintain calendars, assist with billing and invoice processing, complete reports and enter time records, and update client matter files. 
  • Address client inquiries regarding case status, remaining steps, processing times and consular appointments.  
  • Enter billable hours timely and appropriately complying with firm requirements.   

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • Proven ability to manage client relationships for high-volume clients and complex projects under tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional writing skills.
  • Proficiency with technology platforms, including Microsoft Office and LawLogix.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Self-motivated, professional, and team-oriented.  
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain firm billable requirements for immigration tasks.  

Educational Requirements

  • Associates Degree preferred; Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent immigration paralegal experience a plus
  • Paralegal Certificate preferred
