Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
The Counsel, Intellectual Property role will be responsible for intellectual property questions arising from the production of content or creation of brands within his or her client businesses of NBCUniversal.
Responsibilities:
- Provide overall intellectual property strategy for client businesses
- Provide daily advice and counseling to clients on trademark, copyright, domain name and related IP rights questions on a variety of wide-ranging matters, i.e. an on-set production issue or a content acquisition license
- Responsible for clearance, prosecution and enforcement of trademarks related to client businesses whether domestic or international
- Clearance for titles, trademarks, character names, and similar production and content related assets
- Conduct due diligence and coordinate the integration of intellectual property from mergers and acquisitions of new businesses
- Responsible for brand protection and enforcement related to client businesses
- Oversee domain name acquisitions and UDRP’s for client businesses
- Work with the rest of the department to support the overall intellectual property protection efforts of the company
- Coordinate the prosecution strategy for the department
Basic Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience in the trademark or intellectual property field
- Member of the California bar or US barred attorney

Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the Universal City, CA office a minimum of four days per week.

Salary range: $140,000 - $170,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible).
