Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced attorney to join our growing domestic violence department. Due to the high volume of cases we receive, we need a skilled litigator who can represent both plaintiffs and defendants in family court proceedings under the Domestic Violence Prevention Act, though our practice is primarily defense-oriented.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients in final restraining order hearings
- Handle both plaintiff and defendant cases in domestic violence matters
- Prepare and try cases, including evidence admission, direct examination, and cross-examination
- Work collaboratively with our team of former prosecutors
- Participate in regular team huddles (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) to discuss legal issues, research, negotiation strategies, and case tactics
- Collaborate with our paralegal (a former police officer and sheriff) in case preparation
- Navigate matrimonial issues and consent orders alongside family lawyers
- Understand the implications of final restraining orders on matrimonial actions
Qualifications
- New Jersey bar admission in good standing
- Proven trial experience in domestic violence restraining order cases
- Demonstrated ability to hold plaintiffs to their burden of proof
- Comfort with courtroom litigation and on-your-feet advocacy
- Former prosecutor experience preferred, but not required
- Experience with or understanding of FM divorce cases and/or FD cases is highly valued
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
Employment Terms
- Position will initially start as an hourly rate, as-needed basis
