Position Description
The Legal Aid will provide crucial support to newly arrived immigrants and refugees by assisting them with the application process for their Employment Authorization Document (EAD). This position is 10-20 hours/week, with some evening and weekend availability.
Responsibilities
- Conduct one-on-one sessions to assist immigrants in completing their EAD applications (Form I-765) and ensure accurate and timely submission.
- Review and organize necessary documentation (e.g., proof of identity, status, photos) to support EAD applications.
- Educate clients on the EAD application process, including timelines, requirements, and any relevant fees.
- Assist clients in understanding their rights and responsibilities regarding their EAD.
- Maintain case files and track the progress of EAD applications, ensuring clients are updated on their application status.
- Follow up with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) as necessary to resolve issues or delays.
- Provide referrals to legal services for cases requiring more specialized assistance.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Travel Requirements:
- Travel to Mercer, Monmouth, and Ocean counties is required 3 days a week to participate in EAD clinics and meet with clients.
- Travel to Highland Park is required 2 days a week.
- Mileage reimbursement will be provided.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual in Spanish or Haitian Creole is required.
- Knowledge of U.S. immigration processes, particularly the EAD application, is highly preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
