JOB PURPOSE:
The purpose of this position is to co-teach in the Fair Housing Clinic at Howard University School of Law while directing the new Medical-Legal Partnership, funded by a grant from the DC Bar Foundation. The candidate will also be the supervising attorney over the legal work product of the student attorneys engaged in the program. This is a full-time position that reports to the Director of the Clinical Law Center.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:
This position has no direct reports; the candidate will supervise student attorneys within the Clinical Law Center.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Internal contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, and students in the School of Law and other University departments including in the Howard University Hospital. External contacts may include government officials and a myriad of law and medical affiliated institutions, agencies, and organizations, vendors, clinic clients, alumni, sponsor representatives, visitors and the public.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Work with the Director of the Clinical Law Center and other relevant constituents to establish the “Medical-Legal Partnership arm of the Fair Housing Clinic.
- Supervise 6-8 student attorneys as they represent low-income DC residents in housing-related legal matters where the residents’ legal issue negatively impacts the residents’ health.Serve as the supervising attorney on all matters related to the relevant grants.
- Collaborate with others on curriculum development, course design, teaching and all other responsibilities related to the Fair Housing Clinic under the direction of the fulltime faculty clinic supervisor and Director of the Clinical Law Center.
- Manage external relationships, including with medical professionals who may refer clients to the Clinical Law Center.
- Comply with all requirements of the relevant funding sources, including all reporting requirements.
- Develop trainings as described in the relevant grant agreements.
- Meet all metrics described in the grant agreement.
- Manage community outreach and client development.
- Participate in Clinical Law Center programming and events including, but not limited to, open houses, orientations, faculty meetings, guest speakers, symposia, special events, and outreach activities.
- Manage data for grant reports; work with the Assistant Director of the Clinical Law Center to submit accurate and timely grant reports.
- Other duties may include advising students academically and assisting students regarding career opportunities and fulfilling administrative duties as assigned or necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Juris Doctorate degree, at least three years of relevant legal experience.
Bar admission in the District of Columbia is preferred but not required.
