The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State’s legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.
The Assistant Attorneys General (AAGs) in the MDH Division are involved in a wide array of legal matters that impact the state's healthcare system and public health efforts. The work is focused on improving the access, quality, and delivery of healthcare to all Marylanders. As a law clerk you will have an opportunity to work on a wide range of projects related to the development and delivery of behavioral health services, the Medicaid program, public health programs, operation of the MDH Healthcare System, and licensing and regulatory activities of various professional boards and commissions. Our law clerks help solve real-life problems involving access to health care, provider and practitioner compliance, and delivery of crucial health care services. Law clerks gain exposure to administrative and court proceedings involving constitutional, employment, procurement, Medicaid, and tort law. The position involves significant experience conducting legal research, drafting legal memoranda, and health care focused projects. This office offers an exciting opportunity for law clerks seeking mentally stimulating and challenging work in both litigation and transactional practice areas.

Qualifications and Skills:
The OAG's Division representing the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) provides comprehensive legal advice and representation to the state agency responsible for the health and well-being of Maryland residents across a wide range of programs, services, and regulatory activities. MDH employs over 10,000 individuals with a budget of over $21 billion in fiscal year 2026.

Qualifications and Skills:
- Demonstrated Interest in Health Law: Enthusiasm and a demonstrated interest in health law, public health, or a related field (e.g., policy, administration, or science) is highly desirable. An academic or professional background in health law, public health, or a related field is an advantage.
- Academic Excellence: Strong performance in legal coursework and a commitment to learning.
- Superior Research and Writing Skills: Strong legal research, persuasive legal writing skills, and policy analysis.
- Professional Attributes: Candidates must possess a strong work ethic, time management skills, value teamwork, professionalism and be adaptable to new challenges.
