The Procurement Counsel will be a trusted legal advisor, supporting the company’s global procurement efforts through legal guidance, contract negotiation, and regulatory risk management. This role partners closely with procurement professionals, internal business units, and external counsel to deliver practical, business-focused legal support aligned with Western Union’s goals.
Role Responsibilities
Lead a team of two to three legal professionals.
Provide legal advice and support for a variety of procurement transactions, including vendor contracts, technology agreements, licensing, outsourcing, real estate, and other third-party engagements.
Identify legal and business risks in contractual arrangements and provide practical, solution-oriented advice to stakeholders.
Partner with procurement professionals and business leaders to align legal guidance with strategic and regulatory requirements.
Assist in developing and implementing company policies related to procurement, vendor management, and compliance.
Coordinate with external counsel on specific legal matters or disputes.
Conduct legal research and analysis on complex legal issues affecting procurement operations.
Role Requirements
Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
Admission to at least one U.S. state bar (or international equivalent, if located outside the U.S.).
10+ years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, with significant experience in procurement, vendor contracting, or commercial transactions. Real estate experience is a plus.
Substantial experience negotiating complex agreements, preferably in diverse and cross-cultural environments.
Experience supporting global organizations and collaborating with stakeholders across functions and regions.
Strong business acumen and the ability to provide timely, practical legal advice across a broad spectrum of matters.
Effective communication skills, both oral and written, tailored to various audiences.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and deliver results with minimal supervision.
International legal experience and financial services knowledge preferred.

Salary
The base salary range is $170,000 - $200,000 USD per year, total on target compensation includes a base salary plus a variable target incentive that aligns with individual and company performance.
