Compliance Attorney
We are seeking an experienced Compliance Attorney to join our legal team in a compliance-focused, advisory role supporting the firm’s marketing, advertising, and client engagement practices. This position will play a key role in ensuring the firm operates ethically, transparently, and in full compliance with applicable California laws and professional responsibility standards.
The ideal candidate enjoys contract review, regulatory compliance, and advisory work, particularly in the areas of advertising, marketing oversight, and attorney ethics, and prefers a collaborative, non-litigation-focused environment. This role works closely with the Marketing team, firm leadership, and the General Counsel to proactively identify and mitigate risk while supporting business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the firm’s internal legal advisor on compliance and professional responsibility matters, including the client intake and engagement process.
- Review and provide guidance on engagement letters, client communications, and referral processes to ensure compliance with California law and professional standards.
- Conduct and review conflict checks and related waivers, providing guidance on conflict avoidance and resolution.
- Review and approve advertising and marketing materials (digital, print, social media) to ensure compliance with legal ethics rules and firm policies.
- Work closely with General Counsel to interpret and implement compliance rules and to update firm policies as legal standards evolve.
- Monitor regulatory and ethics developments affecting attorney advertising and communications.
- Provide training or guidance to internal teams on compliance best practices.
Skills & Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in compliance, ethics, contract review, or a related legal role
- Familiarity with California attorney advertising rules and professional responsibility standards
- Basic experience with contract review and negotiation, with willingness to learn
- Comfortable reviewing marketing or written materials and providing feedback to non-legal teams
- Strong attention to detail and sound judgment
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with different departments
